What is Velo and how does it solve movie indecision?

Velo is a cooperative movie matchmaking mobile application for couples, families, and friend groups. Instead of endless scrolling on streaming services, everyone in the group swipes independently through the same movie deck. Velo calculates each vote into a fair, consensus-ranked watchlist with a single winner.

How does the Velo consensus scoring algorithm work?

Each Swipe Right contributes +1 point, Super Likes contribute +3 points, and Discards subtract -1 point. In genre-based sessions, an affinity boost of up to +1.5 points is awarded for favorite genres. If Strict Veto mode is enabled, any movie discarded by even one participant with zero super-likes is completely eliminated.

Can Velo filter movies by streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Max?

Yes. Velo supports streaming provider filtering across 50+ countries. In group sessions, Velo dynamically matches movies available on services owned by all session participants so no one gets recommended movies they cannot stream.

Can I import my Letterboxd watch history and ratings into Velo?

Yes! Velo includes a built-in Letterboxd importer. Simply export your data zip from Letterboxd (Settings > Data > Export) and import it into Velo. Ratings are mapped automatically (>=4.5 stars to Super Like, >=3.5 stars to Like, <=1.5 stars to Dislike) and watched titles are filtered from future sessions.

Do friends need to download the app or create an account to join?

No. Guests can join swiping sessions friction-free by simply entering the 6-character room code or scanning the host’s QR code with a nickname.

How does Strict Veto mode work?

Strict Veto ensures zero conflict on movie night. When enabled, any title that receives a Discard from any participant (and no Super Likes) is immediately excluded from the final results.

Velo is a cooperative movie matchmaking app. We provide tools for users to discover and rate movies with friends. Movie data is provided by TMDb (The Movie Database). Your use of Velo is also subject to TMDb's Terms of Use, and you acknowledge that Velo is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.

3. User Accounts & Content

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. By uploading content (such as avatar images or session names), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, and display that content to provide the service. We are not liable for any loss or damage from your failure to comply with security obligations.

4. User Conduct & Copyright

You agree not to use the service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose. You must not upload content that infringes on others' copyrights, intellectual property, or is abusive. We respect the intellectual property rights of others and reserve the right to remove offending content and terminate accounts of repeat infringers.

5. Modifications & Termination

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service, or terminate your account, at our sole discretion, at any time and without notice.
